Interview With Reggae Artist “Ruki”

1. Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in the music industry?

My name is Oneil dudley (AKA Ruki) and I am from Jamaica I was born in Manchester mandeville and I grew up in portmore era Independence City st Catherine and I moved to the states at around 1993 living in Newark New Jersey and I’ll live there for about 19 years, I moved to Florida. I used to do my music thing from school days since I came to the states and then as I grew up I’ve decided to further it and take it up more professionally.

2. How would you describe your music style and what inspires your creativity?

Yes, I would say my style is more new style, I try to have a little more reggae too like a mixture and I don’t try to make it seem like Im stuck in one genre. I just like to entertain and I like to be on stage I’ve always wanted to be a performer/artist.

3. Can you talk about a specific project or album that you are particularly proud of and why? 

My first single that I published back in 2020 called TODEH, after I did that song It made me more recognized as an upcoming artist in the industry.

4. How do you approach the songwriting process and what are some of the biggest challenges you face?

I mainly just write what comes to mind and build on a vibe that I like to keep the flow going.

5. Can you speak to your experience performing live and the energy you bring to your shows?

I always rehearse for every show, and I like to be prepared however it also depends on the crowd that lets me know what type of energy to bring, and I like to connect with the crowd like hype it up with energy.

6. How do you balance your personal life with your music career and do you have any tips for aspiring artists?

Sometimes it can be a little difficult while working and not putting my 100% in the music career but I find a way to balance it. And for aspiring artists I would say to never give up and don’t be scared to ask for help.

7. Can you share any upcoming projects or collaborations that you are excited about?

I have some new material coming up that I’m really excited about really letting every hear these new songs that I’ve made I feel like the people would love it.

8. How do you see the music industry evolving in the future and how do you see yourself fitting into that change? 

The music industry always have changes and new sounds that are trending, I feel like I would adapt to the chance because I like to switch my style up to what the people now days enjoy.

9. Can you talk about any charitable or community initiatives you are involved in and why they are important to you?

Well we just started a back to School charity this summer in Jamaica where we issued out some supplies and and shoes for the kids.

10. Can you give advice to aspiring artists looking to break into the industry?

My advice to those who are looking to break out in the industry would be to be yourself and keep grinding for what you what and that you get what you put out. Like I said before dont be scared to ask for help, stay humble and learn from others.
