Absurd Interview with Music Artist: Jaysin Voxx

Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in the music industry?

Ok, so a little bout Voxx…I am a take-no-prisoners, no-holds barred, product of the Bay Area Music Machine. I grew up in the Bay Area, where music is everywhere. In the Bay the talent is strong and the hustle is even stronger. My friends at school mostly could rap, I was the only singer, so every day after school we’d holla at girls with whatever freestyle hit we could come up with off the top. ...And I will do anything for the ladies. Soon, I became confident not only in my singing talent, but also my growing ability to write lyrics, especially hooks…I can write a dope hook to anything you throw at me = facts. SO THEN...That confidence had me talking myself up pretty big at a party in the Hills in Los Angeles, more specifically I believe it was Encino. I happened to tell one of Akon’s people who was at the party that I write hot songs and a week later they sent me 2 tracks to write to. They loved what I wrote and within the month I was heading down to Los Angeles to record my song "Goddy Body.” After I moved to LA, I put up my next song “Cause Everytime” and that hit Billboard Charts. Spark, flame, Blaze...Ready.set.Voxx.

How would you describe your music style and what inspires your creativity?

My music style is Dance Pop with an Urban twist. Dance Pop is everywhere ofc these days, but that Urban twist, that’s uniquely Voxx…V for versatility. When I first got to LA the best way to make money was to be a hired-gun and sing whatever they put in front of me. My versatility and style was in a feeding-frenzy because I would sing Chris Brown and Justin Beiber one night ( and KILL IT btw ) and then go sing Temptations and Timex Social Club or Kool and the Gang the next ( and KILL THAT too ). Music is my world and so I find everything inspires me. My strongest inspiration tho has got to be from travel and meeting people around the world. Exactly why I wrote and released my song “Destination Girl”, a thank-you to my growing fanbase in India and Bollywood.

Can you talk about a specific project or album that you are particularly proud of and why?

My project for the “Hands On Me” M/V was a very special one. I’m proud of this project because of how amazing the music video turned out and all the talented people I got to work with in the process. When we started, we just had a concept and a rough idea of how to complete it, but by the time we wrapped, we had pulled together Lotus Cars Limited, extreme fashion brand Sachika, and Vlado shoes all as sponsors involved with the project. We pushed through tough deadlines and hours of editing and ended up with a video that won many Awards in the United States and in Canada. The video for “Hands On Me” was one of my best experiences in the business so far.

How do you approach the songwriting process and what are some of the biggest challenges you face?

Songwriting to me is an unexpected gift. I grew up knowing I could sing and entertain, but I never imagined that I would write songs that fans would love and spend their time and money to check out and be a part of. Songwriting often just happens, I mean, I think of it as...I’m tuned in. I could hear someone say something on the street, it builds and builds during the day, and that night I wake up in the middle of the night and just write a whole song. Some of my songs may take longer to really lock-in but they always seem to come find me. It feels as if they write themselves and my job is to never, ever ignore inspiration.

Can you speak to your experience performing live and the energy you bring to your shows?

Performing live is why I do it! I love everything about performing live, the energy you get from the crowd, the mic in your hand, feeling all those eyes and that moment when it vibes. I was born on the stage, I’ve always performed since I was 3 years old, for church or for the neighbors. The energy I look to bring to my performances is fun, playful, and adventurous. Too much these days feels depressing, down-looking, self-involved. I want to lift my fans up, take you places...let’s talk about how can I get you in a great mood, have the time of your life and come party with me.

How do you balance your personal life with your music career and do you have any tips for aspiring artists?

Balance in personal life is always important. I don’t know if I have it all figured, but I can say we only get one life, inspiration can be fickle and it doesn’t always wait. I’m on a mission, so my friends know what that means. If I got an album to finish or a live show to put together I gotta do what I gotta do. Music is my business and business is good. It’s a sacrifice I believe has to be made to show the world this is my focus and I will do whatever it takes to achieve my goals. Balance...not sure I’m the expert. The best tip I can give to the readers is the people around you matter. The people around you matter. Their mentality, their spirit, their vibe, it all matters. If you are meant to bring your music to the world, those people will either lift you up, or eventually drag you under.

Can you share any upcoming projects or collaborations that you are excited about?

The success of my recent album “Departure” which, if you haven’t snatched it yet…who you sleepin' on? haha! Anyway, that success has opened a world of new contacts and opportunities like working with Angel’s Clubhouse Empire and the great Doc Sizzle. If you liked what I dropped on “Departure” this new shit is gonna blow minds!

How do you see the music industry evolving in the future and how do you see yourself fitting into that change?

I believe the music world is in severe need of some positivity and fun and I’m the Artist to bring it. I make music that makes people feel good, makes my fans feel good, and who doesn’t wanna feel good? You might think the current trend seems to reveal that people don’t wanna feel good but I know that’s false. Plus, that’s the current trend and I’m not looking to blend or follow, I’m the new wave. No cap. Fans just need the right music to make them smile again and think of how exciting it is to be alive in 2023! Prescription: 400cc's of Jaysin Voxx in your Boxx.

Can you talk about any charitable or community initiatives you are involved in and why they are important to you?

I believe in the power of charity and I’m looking to make Music Matter Again. DJ Ground Beef, recently invited me to perform for National Night Out which is a great cause and celebration that allows communities to get to know their local public service workers...Schools, Fire Department, the Sherrif's Office, The CHP. These people work very hard to help make our lives better and I want my music to help heal our community and get people to trust each other again. There’s still a lot of good out there. I wrote my song “A Better World” because as the song says, “a better you, and better me, A Better World” and it all starts with you and me. I know music has the power to bring the healing we all need. Go watch my “A Better World” right now on youtube and I promise you'll smile.

Can you give advice to aspiring artists looking to break into the industry

As I mentioned earlier, the best tip I can give any new or aspiring musician is that your people matter. Your friends, your family, the people you work with, they all have influence over you and your creativity. When I first moved to LA I found a lot of party friends but realized that if I’m serious about my music and my craft, I can’t party all the time. This is called the Music Business…it ain’t just Music…never forget that. The Business side is the part that trips up most because everything requires hardwork, even if you're a natural. Be careful who and what you give your time to, if it ain’t bringing you back more that you put in, that’s not good for you or your vibe. I want to Thank you and everyone involved for giving me the opportunity to tell a little bit of my story.
