Barbra Streisand Said Prince Charles Sneakily Sent Her Flowers "Before He Met Diana"

“If I played my cards right, I could have wound up being the first Jewish princess!”

Back in the day, before Barbra Streisand had met James Brolin and Prince Charles had wed Princess Diana, the celebrated performer and the British royal enjoyed an unconventional friendship. 

"He asked to meet me. So he came to the recording studio," Streisand recently told U.K. presenter Ross King about her 1974 introduction to the prince. 

From there, a friendship blossomed. "We became friends, and I loved spending some time at Highgrove for a weekend fundraiser and going through his gardens," she remembered. 

Later, when she was visiting London, she asked her assistant about a mysterious bouquet of flowers that had been sent to her.

The assistant told Streisand that the gift was from "a fan called Charles." 

"I said, 'Really? Let me see the note' — and there was his seal," Streisand explained. "And they weren't like from a florist because they were from his gardens and it's a different look."

Noting that the friendship had thrived "before he met Diana," Streisand shared a cheeky line she'd performed on stage when Charles was in the audience. "I said, 'You know, if I played my cards right, I could have wound up being the first Jewish princess!'"
